A WIN for Indiana Patients: Share the Savings Legislation is now law.

Indiana has joined West Virginia and Arkansas in delivering an important win for Hoosiers who are struggling to afford their medicines. Governor Eric Holcomb signed into law Senate Bill 8, which will ensure that Indiana patients aren’t paying more for their medicines than their health insurance company or the middlemen known as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

Patients & small employers share the costs for their medicines.
They should share the savings, too.

The Problem:

Patients and small employers are paying too much money for their prescription medicines, which are being pocketed by PBMs and insurers.

The Solution:

Urge the Indiana State Legislature to pass Senate Bill 8 to provide immediate savings for patients’ prescription drug costs and better transparency for employers.

“Share the Savings” helps hoosiers save money on prescription drugs.

Many patients with commercial health insurance are required to share in the cost of their prescription medicines. The cost to patients and small employers is often much higher than the cost to their insurance company - for the same medicine on the same prescription. That’s because health insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) negotiate significant rebates on the cost of medicine and do not share these savings with patients.

Share the Savings would require insurers and PBMs to share the savings they enjoy from pharmaceutical companies but do not currently pass on to Hoosier consumers.
